Here are some simple pieces of advice on how to take care of your precious stone.
Don’t Wear or Remove Your Diamond Publicly
At any cost, never try to put on that ring when you’re boarding a crowded train or bus. In case you’re already wearing it, resist the temptation of removing or playing with it. When washing your hands in a restaurant or public washroom, don’t attempt to take your ring off as there’s always the possibility of accidentally dropping it into the drain.
Always Clean It
Cleaning your diamond should be a routine. This is not only to lengthen its life, it’s also a sign of hygiene. An ideal cleaning solution is a mixture of hot water and gin. Clean it using a toothbrush or a small brush. Don’t use bleach or any abrasive cleaning solution, as it can affect the lustre. Better yet, take it to an expert jeweller to have it properly cleaned.
Don’t Keep Your Diamond in Inappropriate Containers
Don’t keep them in containers with other hard objects that can knock against it. Instead, place them in a fabric lined case or a box with dividers. You can choose to wrap it in a cloth and keep it in a personalised box.
Get Insurance
Have it insured if you want every assurance that your diamond is fully protected. You should also make it a point to visit a jeweller and have it appraised every three or five years.
